NARS Sheer Glow Matte / Siberia |
I bought this foundation whilst in New York in February after hearing various reviews both good and bad. I’d debated on purchasing the foundation for a while but thought I’d take the plunge and buy it on impulse, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it at all.
I’m in the shade Siberia, which is the palest shade in the foundation collection. I think the matte effect on the bottle makes the colour appear paler than what it actually is. I did swatch the foundation onto my hand and applied some on my jawline to ensure that the colour matched and it did even though the swatch on my hand looked immensely yellow toned, however when the foundation os blended in the colour was almost exact to my natural skin tone.
When I first started using this foundation I really didn’t like it. Even though I have oily skin the foundation really dried out my face, especially around the nose. I really wanted to like this foundation as it’s not cheap. I thought it would be a good idea to see how the foundation worked with certain moisturisers and primers, so I could find out a way to wear the foundation and not feel as though it was going to flake off or dry my face up. I found that using a rich creme moisturiser really helped, applying a thick amount around the nose and any other areas that where a lot dryer. I would the apply Benefit Porefessional around the nose and on my forehead and chin, as they’re the areas that get increasingly oily and the Benefit Porefessional really helps to get rid of any oily areas.
In some cases I found that even using the moisturiser just didn’t help with the dry areas. However applying a face oil the night before (I used the Tarte face oil) really helped to completely banish any dry areas, so the next day when it came to applying the foundation it was free of any problems. I apply the foundation with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush as I find that this works best. I use a combination of Stippling as well as regular blending and the end result is just flawless. I’d recommend trying various applicators to find the right one before making your own judgment about the foundation.

The Foundation blends in flawlessly |
Although it seems as though the foundation has been nothing but problematic. The more I’ve used this foundation, the more I’ve really come to love it. I now use this everyday and I’m really happy with the end result. It lasts all day and now I really can’t fault it. A lot of the reviews that I’ve personally read on the Nars foundations have been reasonably disappointing, however I was just so eager to love this foundation that I really wanted to compromise and find a way for it to work.
I think if you’re like me and have Oily skin that does tend to get dry, I’d recommend perhaps trying the Nars Sheer Glow, and if your skin is more on the oily side I would definitely recommend the Sheer Glow Matte as it stays matte throughout the day and just doesn’t budge, which can really be a problem when dealing with oily skin.
