Self Confidence In Blogging & Living Non-apologetically|ad

Life’s all about taking chances, no matter how big or small and when it came to starting my blog almost 5 years ago now, I was certainly taking a huge risk putting my shy and reserved self out onto the internet for anyone and everyone to see. It’s a lot to grasp initially and there’s so many factors to blogging that is really out of my comfort zone, however, sometimes you’ve got to rid yourself of these worries, ignore the odd looks and do what you’ve got to do. It’s all about living life unapologetically and thanks to Diet Coke’s new Because I Can campaign, I’m able to do so every day.

Having self confidence isn’t something that comes naturally to me, not just within blogging but throughout my everyday life. I thought it would be fun and insightful to have a little chat about some of the self confidence mountains that I’ve had to climb, and although it may have been an uphill battle, there’s nothing better than looking back down upon what you’ve achieved.  It’s little wins like this that Diet Coke want us all to celebrate, so here’s my journey to living my life unapologetically.

LEARNING TO LIVE UNAPOLOGETICALLY

When I started blogging at the ripe young age of 17, I had very little self confidence and for about a year, I really hid behind my blog and would never share photos of myself within blog posts, It was almost as though I was a ghost writer to my own blog. As the years have passed, I’ve grown into myself more and more and learnt to accept the fact that who I am is a blessing rather than a curse. Here’s some tips that I’ve learnt along the way when it comes to living unapologetically

On a more general scale however, us Brits apologies over 7 times a day and let’s be real usually we’re apologising for absolutely nothing. I usually apologise daily for other people bumping into me in the streets or I apologise to the lift in work when I accidentally bump into the wall. It’s crazy to think just how much us Brits apologise for nothing at all.

TIPS FOR LIVING UNAPOLOGETICALLY

– THEY’RE NOT GOING TO REMEMBER YOU (AND IF THEY DO – OWN IT)

When it comes to shooting outfit photos outdoors or at a location, I refused to put myself out there like that for so long. It was only until I had been blogging for about 2 years that I got a sprinkle of confidence to do so. I was so humiliated at the thought of people looking at me and judging me, when in actual fact I live in a city that’s artistic and a huge tourist city, therefore It wasn’t as much of a big deal as I thought It was. When I was starting out getting my photograph taken for blog post, I constantly reminded myself that none of these people who glance at me getting my photo taken are going to remember me, and if they do then I guess I’ve got a face worth remembering (insert sassy nail emoji here) Thinking like this almost reassured myself that there’s nothing for me to worry about, it’s all in my head.

– YOU LOOK GOOD – SO WORK IT

I’m a very self conscious person and I do put a lot of effort into how I look when I know I’m going to be taking blog photos. I mean, I am somewhat low maintenance and my glam is probably someone else everyday make-up look, but sometimes you’ve got to put what other people are wearing and doing to the back of your mind and just do your own thing. I’ve put the effort in therefore I should own it because I’m the only person who’s like me.

– BEING YOU IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF

With blogging, it’s so easy to fall into dressing like everyone else and really buying into the trends that fill the rails of the high-street. Although there’s so many bloggers out there that I completely adore and occasionally my purchases are inspired by other influencers, however, I’ve learnt over the past year especially that there’s no better tip in this industry than being yourself, we’re all different for a reason and your hobbies, interest, style choices or opinions are nothing to be ashamed of, you should own them, just like I do #BecauseICan!

I DO IT ‘BECAUSE I CAN’

– WEARING BRIGHT COLOURS & EXPERIMENTING WITH MY STYLE

Believe it or not, about 2 years ago my wardrobe was solidly monochromatic. Wearing colour was completely alien to me, I wouldn’t even look at colourful pieces whilst shopping. However, now I’ve experimented with my style SO much more than I ever thought I would and now I’m a 70’s loving, colour fanatic that loves nothing more than making a statement with my clothing and just feeling at one with who I am.

– SPEAKING MY MIND

Another thing I do #BecauseICan is speak my mind. Although I try to be the best version of myself at all times, when there’s something I’m passionate about sometimes I can’t help but vocalise it. This has ran through to the type of blog content that I write, over the past year I’ve really began to open up to you, my lovely readers, and talk about anything and everything that’s on my mind and the feedback is astonishing. It’s amazing how you can connect with people on another wave length just by living unapologetically.

– PERFECTING MY POSE

As I mentioned earlier, taking blog photos in public was something I was so apprehensive about. The thought of it all just made me feel so exposed and awkward. The first few times I shot outfit photos, I felt like a china doll and I couldn’t move or do anything without feeling completely overwhelmed with embarrassment. However, now I completely own it and although I don’t have many poses, I’m definitely better at ‘working it’ and not caring what people think that I was 2 years ago.

I hope this post has been a little helping hand to anyone out there who feels like I once did. You should never ever be sorry for who you are or what you’re doing, especially if it makes you happy. Don’t do it because you feel like you have to and don’t do it because you feel like you’ll be judge do it because YOU can and you can always treat those little life milestones with a diet coke at the end of the day. I’d love to know your #BecauseICan moments, so many of you have been letting me know what you’re not sorry about over on my Instagram, so join in on the conversation and let’s share our unapologetic milestones!

Love,

Abbie

Love this post! It took me YEARS to really come out of my shell and just be me. I wish I could do back and tell my younger self just how awesome she is! Though I'm much more confident now, I still haven't nailed the 'posing for pictures out in public' yet, but I'm keen to work on it – with my safety net of bloggers around me to begin with haha!Loving this shoot, these pictures, as always, are gorgeous!Keep being you!Sarah :)Saloca in Wonderland
