How A Positive Mindset Changed My Life.

How A Positive Mindset Changed My Life.

For the past 23 and a bit years, I’ve been living life as a pessimist in hiding. I spent ever waking moment thinking negatively about something and constantly thinking that the worse possible thing would happen. You know why I thought like this? Because the worst (or pretty close to it) did always happen. I got stuck in the mindset that the universe was not on my side and constantly had it in for me. However, it was indeed me, myself and I who would draw those negative occurrences into my own life without even realising.

Some of you may be reading this thinking that I’ve gone slightly insane, as how can anyone control the things that happen in their life, right? But after the past couple of years, I can’t help but agree with the whole ‘attracting negativity’ being down to my own thoughts and energy.

The Law Of Attraction.

I’m pretty sure the majority of you would have heard of The Law Of Attraction and know what it’s all about. Simply put, the Law of Attraction is the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. It is believed that regardless of age, nationality or religious belief, we are all susceptible to the laws which govern the Universe, including the Law of Attraction. It is the Law of Attraction which uses the power of the mind to translate whatever is in our thoughts and materialize them into reality. In basic terms, all thoughts turn into things eventually. If you focus on negative doom and gloom you will remain under that cloud. If you focus on positive thoughts and have goals that you aim to achieve you will find a way to achieve them with massive action.I’m pretty sure the majority of you would have heard of The Law Of Attraction and know what it’s all about.

My Thoughts Became My Reality.

It took me a very long time to realise just how much my negative thoughts and mindset really effected my life. I remember when I was a teenager, I was in the shower thinking about how shit my boyfriend was after an argument and how it would be easier if he cheated on me so I could get out of the relationship. 16 year old Abigail thought absolutely nothing of that innocent thought, but low and behold, around 2 months later, the relationship ended due to that boyfriend cheating on me. Some may call it a coincidence and some may take it as the universe listening in and reacting to what I’d drawn into my life. I’m aware that it sounds absolutely awful that I thought that, but it just shows that the thoughts that we manifest, even as a joke and even for a few minutes whilst we shave our legs in the shower, can still impact our lives in some way.

Changing My Thoughts For My Own Sake.

Do you ever find yourself well and truly trapped inside your mind? I think when you’re fairly independent and a self-motivated person, you tend to become your own worst enemy at times, and I think my thoughts being so negative created that environment in my head.

At a certain point in my life, I would think negatively about everything. I’d convinced myself that everyone hated. I didn’t want to be myself anymore, I felt as though there was an evil version of myself trapped inside my body. It sounds SO dramatic, I’m so aware of that, but the thing I’m trying to get at is that thinking negatively and having a pessimistic mindset ate away at who I was and consumed me entitrly.

Changing the way you think is 100% easier said than done, it take time to flip that switch and keep it that way. The first step is defentiely realisation, it took me a while to realise that everything that was happening to me was due to how I felt about myself and how I would talk to myself, it was unhealthy. I began to attempt to focus on the things that I liked about myself. For example, I like how I always make time for the people I care about, So, I started to focus on that and make that my priority, when I met up with my friends and people I hadn’t seen for so long, they’d listen to me, understand me, and most of all, they would be there for me (and to have a Gin and a laugh of course!)

From this point though, I swtiched my focus from the activities and people that where pulling me down and bringing said negative thoughts into my head. By doing something so simple, I got my prioritie straight and got myself on the right path. From this point, I began to practise visulisation and possitive affromations. These two practises honestly changed everything for me. I’m no expert in any means of the word, but if you feel as though you’re in a bad place mentally and like you’re trapped there, I fully urge you to read up on it and edicate yourself as It can quite literally change your life.
