3 Evening Rituals I Live By For The Best Nights Sleep

To me, bedtime is truly the best part of the day. Obviously going to sleep is just pure bliss and relaxation, but one thing I absolutely love is my bedtime preparations.

Depending on the day, sometimes after my 9-5 work day, I work on my blog and instagram (like I’m doing right now) so, my brain is usually active for well over 12 hours a day, which can become overwhelming and obviously not great when it comes to promoting good mental health However, like I said, I have a bedtime routine that I absolutely swear by and I thought for anyone who’s struggling to relax whilst working from home, or if you’re like me and work on your ‘side hustle’ of an evening after working your full time job, hopefully sharing some of my evening rituals, you too can get the nights sleep that you deserve (and that your body and mind needs!)

Stop responding to messages & Put Your Phone Down

You may think, “well, isn’t that a bit rude’ but no, I can ensure you it’s not. Once the clock hits 10pm, it’s highly unlikely you’ll get a response from me. I work on social media, so sometimes I have to literally force myself to step away from it, so unless it’s an emergency, or a weekend, my phone is basically out of sight from 10pm.

I think it’s always great for your mental health to take step back from social media, even if it’s just for an hour or two a day, get some fresh air, have a conversation with a loved one face to face, do some tidying up. Although it may sound boring and mundane, it’s such a positive habit to add into your routine, no matter what time of day it may be.

Skincare, skincare, skincare!!

Did I mention, skincare!!! I’m sure you’ll all know by now, ya girls a skincare junkie. Although my blog & instagram focus on Fashion & Interiors, my instagram stories are usually me talking about skincare, trying skincare and asking you guys for your great recommendations! Having a skincare routine that you’re truly dedicated to every evening, will not only have a positive affect on your skin’s appearance, but it also gives you some time in the day, to simply focus on yourself and nothing else. If you’re an overthinker like me or someone that’s just so busy with work or life, or maybe your a Mum, Dad, Carer, etc, your entire day is dedicated to your family and children, so having that time to focus on yourself and give yourself a mini pamper can do you the world of good. Whether you do your full skincare regime or you just pop on a face mask, those little moments are great for your mental health and will get you in a much better headspace, ready for a good night’s sleep.

Creating a cosy environment

Okay, technically this step is a few in one, but bare with me, it’s the overall effect. Most of these steps are actually in my blog post which focuses on how to get a better anxiety-free nights sleep, however, this is still a bedtime ritual that I absolutely swear by…

  • Lavender Pillow Spray
By now, you would have seen that I love pillow sprays and although I’ve currently used all of the ones I have *sobs* I’m desperate to treat myself to another and let those delightful lavender scent help me drift off to sleep
  • Oil Diffuser
My oil diffuser is a new purchase and I’ve completely fallen in love with it. You may have seen it on my Instagram stories a few weeks ago and so many of you messaged me saying their diffusers have done wonders for their anxiety when going to sleep so from then I was sold. You can select any aromatherapy oil you fancy (obviously, I’ve got lavender) the diffuser just has a beautiful faint light (which you can change the colour of) and it distributes the perfect amount of scent that isn’t too overpowering when you’re trying to sleep
  • Headspace or Calm App = MY LIFE!
There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t recommend or talk to someone about these 2 apps, they are MY LIFE, honestly. Whether you just want some soothing music or ambient sounds to drift of to, or you want Harry Styles or soothe you to sleep with a story, these apps are honestly my children.

What are your bedtime rituals?

Stay groovy x

One thing I do every night is turn my phone off before I go to sleep, it’s just nice to unwind and I’d rather do a bit of reading before going to sleep rather than scrolling on my phone! x
