Autumn 2020 Trends You Should Invest In

Not only have we entered the best season of the year, but we’re also edging closer and closer to the end of 2020. However, it may feel like your wardrobe is going to waste with the whispers of a second lockdown and further restrictions. However, think it’s crucial to do still the things we enjoy regardless, and for me, building and styling my Autumn/Winter wardrobes is one of my favourite seasonal activities. I know that whenever the colder weather begins to show its face, my style is about to step into the spotlight and I can genuinely dress how I’m comfortable.

The majority of my British Autumns are usually spent in oversized knitwear and a pair of staple cord trousers and, this year, the trends on the highstreet are supporting that aspect of my A/W style – Which is great! It’s time to dig out or Granddad style jumpers and truly embrace the cold weather. An overview of the trends are; chunky knits, neutral tones and a lot of layering and texture, what more could you want?

So, let’s get into it.

Knitted Vests

Yes, you heard me right, knitted vests are everywhere. It’s time to unleash our inner Chandler Bing with an array of colourful & retro-inspired prints. If you’re like me, although you love chunky knitwear, you’re usually in a rush and end up SWEATING your tits off (to put it frankly!) However, knitted vests are perfect for achieving that Granddad Chic style, but without feeling as though you’re in a constant sauna.

Neutral Checks

Every Autumn, some sort of checkered print is all the rage, it is Autumn after all, and we’re all attempting to channel that Harvest Farmer Vibe, but in a chic way, you know? I purchased a Neutral Checkered Shacket from Topshop last year, and this year it’s even more ‘in style’ than it was last year. Investing in some checkered prints that you love and re-wearing them each Autumn is one of the best additions you can make to your seasonal wardrobe. Pair it with some DM’s and a neutral knit, and you’re good to go.

Big Collar Energy

We’ve seen this trend pop-up throughout Spring & Summer, and I’m so glad it’s making an appearance across Autumn/Winter too! The bigger the collar, the better, in my opinion. The thing about the big collar energy is that it’s a trend that can be bought into within Vintage clothing, so it’s great if you’re trying to cut down on your fashion footprint. I’ve purchased a few satin shirts from my local vintage stores that have the cutest patterns and frill finishes, so it’s certainly worth having a look if you can. After all, having a unique piece is all the more fun!

Faux Leather Trench Coats

The more you look like an extra from The Matrix, the better. Trench coats are a timeless staple; however, I think the addition of the faux leather texture is excellent for adding a modern touch to a classic piece. The style of a trench coat paired with the leather adds a polished look to your outfit, even if you’re wearing a t-shirt and jeans underneath. Alternatively, if you’re not into a trench, but still want to have a subtle not towards The Matrix, try a leather blazer! They have the same sort of vibe; however, they’re a lot more casual and effortless to wear day-to-day.

Chunky AF Boots

Boots seem to be getting chunkier by the year. They are a trend that we’ve seen scattered about A/W for the past few years; however, now, you can’t go online or look in a shop without seeing chunky boots everywhere. I love how people are styling them right now, super chic and Skandi with a chunky neutral knit, some straight leg jeans or leather cigarette trousers. It’s a ‘vibe’ that I’d love to try out for myself, but as someone who craves colour and a retro twist, I’m still trying to figure out how to get that cool-girl-skandi-vibe and mix it with my personal style. I will definitely keep you guys updated on that little adventure to see how I can work the trend into my current wardrobe.

As you can probably tell, I’m so happy that we’re in Autumn and I love seeing how everyone styling themselves as the season changes and incorporating the trends. If you have any trends you’ve been loving, let me know in the comments or over on Instagram, I’d love to hear from you.

Stay groovy x

I wish I could pull off the knitted vest look, it’s a look that just doesn’t suit me! I would love a leather coat, that’s such a good look! x
